You would think that I wouldn't have to explain the story of Robin Hood at all, just tell you what I thought of it, but no, this tale directed by Ridley Scott(Gladiator) takes a very different approach to the Robin most of us now. Some people like to tell you that this version is more historically accurate, but in fact no one is even really sure if he existed at all. Either way, the movie focuses more on Robin Longstide played by Russell Crowe(Also Gladiator) during his possible involvement in the crusades and leaving the army to lead a life free from the crown and tyranny of England. Made Marion played by Cate Blanchette(Benjamin Button) was a very empowering woman character, but in all movies from older times they try to avoid the sexist ways of the past by giving the character more camera time and importance than she really needed(if you see the movie, you'll understand what I mean at the final battle scene). The movie also sees Prince John become King and the Sheriff of Nottingham, usually Robin's greatest foe, wasn't even needed in this film. I do have to say the action scenes were pretty cool, although there wasn't enough of them, and it had pretty decent humor as far as movies like this go, especially from the "Merry Men" and Friar Tuck. Oscar Isaac played a very interesting King John, being both tyrannically evil, and quite stupid, and Mark Strong(Kick-Ass) played a good villain that was very easy to hate. All in all Crowe played a very good Robin Longstride, I just wish he would have played Robin Hood a little more...
I give Robin Hood a 76% for being a movie that had moments of great promise, but could have been much better.

Hi, I'm Eric, this is something new i'm trying out, I go to the movies every single weekend and see all sorts of movies so i decided why not start writing reviews. Im a graduate of a broadcasting school in Ohio and I'm currently looking for a job in the world of radio, you can listen to me every Monday night from 9pm to 10pm, est. on High on Sports on www.morningshowcentral.com, I'm also a big time nerd, comic books especially, but movies really are my passion.
